Spiritual space clearing is the removal of all invisible, negative and harmful energies in a space that affect the people who live, work or pass through that space.  And the introduction of harmonious, uplifting and energising energies to support all those who use the space.

Spiritual space clearing goes by many names such as space clearing, spiritual house clearing, energy cleansing, home energy clearing and home healing.  But the essence of cleansing any living space is as old as the hills and is rooted in every tradition on earth, Vedic, Native American, Tibetian, Chinese, Aborigine, Maori and South American to name but a few.

Originally it was a part of the ancient practices of Europe too, but due to the various spiritual and political upheavals, it was lost or abandoned to the new religious movements that displaced them.

In it’s simpler form, the term “space clearing” is claimed by two authors: Karen Kingston and Denise Linn.  Both have a number of books on their experience, technique and process of space clearing.  Essentially there approach involves clearing your physical clutter and then using a number of techniques to clear the lower level etheric, emotional and mental debris from your space using chants, musical instruments and herbs.

Spiritual space clearing, is a natural progression from the work of the two authors above and much has been written about this by American dowser Joey Korn.  Spiritual house cleansing covers everything that space clearing does and then goes one step further by focussing deeper on the spiritual source of the imbalances and disease in your space.  A deeper and more complete cleanse is then obtained.

Several modalities are included in the different phases of a spiritual cleanse and differ according to the practitioner and their level of training, experience and understanding.  Dowsing is used to locate and identify the type of subtle energies in a space, their intensity, source and a number of other details that help the practitioner to successful diagnose and clear the energetic disturbances.  Dowsing methods are many but most commonly dowsing rods, a pendulum and body dowsing (feeling) are used.  All professional land and hom healers should dowse against a checklist or chart of energies, to ensure a thorough cleanse.

The cleanse itself can consist of many different methods, such as reiki energy, sound healing with instruments, bells, drums and rattles, cleansing herbs such as Palo Santo or sage.  Intention and decrees are often used and dowsers doing a cleanse in person will often use brass rods hammered into the ground at the property.  For the spiritual aspect of a thorough cleanse,  it is necessary to seek spiritual guidance from a practitioners’ spirit guides, power animals or local spirits.  This level of cleanse is only usually practiced by a trained shaman or shamanic practitioner, due to the training required to safely contact and bring through spiritual guidance and healing.

The third phase is the post-cleanse phase.  Again this differs by practitioner but should include as a minimum: feedback to the client, any actions that are necessary, any blessings to the spirits who assisted in the healing and guidance to the client on how best to move forward and what to expect in the home.

A word of warning

One small word of warning regarding the amount of articles there are on the internet that suggest that anyone can space clear a home with just a stick of sage and a prayer.  This is completely not true and in our professional opinion is dangerous and irresponsible advice. 

We have been called to many situations where a beginner has attempted to clear energies from a room or home, only to end up feeling exhausted, sick and nacious.  More often than not, the clearing has gone wrong and a ghost, spirit or entity has moved from the space to the novice space clearer through the etheric bridge that they’ve created with the sage, making them feel awful.
